Lunch at Mister Paganini, South Bank

My partner and I decided to go out for a nice lunch along Southbank on a recent Sunday. With plenty of choice, we settled on Mister Paganini as we had been there before (quite a few times) and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed at this visit.

First, we found the service to be very poor and unfriendly, even receiving an unfriendly reception whilst paying for the bill. We ordered a jug of a mocktail ($35.00 compared to $10.00 a glass – we definitely didn’t save any money with this which barely got us a glass and a half each). We waited 25 minutes after ordering and still nothing. I couldn’t find a waitperson, so I went up to the counter and was greeted with a frosty response. About five minutes later we received the jug with no apology.


I ordered the Tagliatelle Portofino, tagliatelle, basil pesto, fresh ricotta and roasted cherry tomatoes ($24.00). I appreciated that the pasta was cooked al dente. Unfortunately, that was the only part I enjoyed from this dish. It arrived literally swimming in oil, and it really affected my enjoyment of the dish as a whole, being left with a greasy taste in my mouth. The photo shows the amount of oil still in the dish, even after I had eaten the pasta (which collected a lot of the oil with it) – yes I can’t waste food even! The serving size was also quite small for the price of the dish.

My partner ordered the Calabrese pizza, tomato sugo, mozzarella fior di latte, spicy ┬┤nduja, roasted capsicums, kalamata olives and fresh basil ($23.00). He quite enjoyed his pizza, and the ‘nduja was especially delicious. However, he found it quite greasy as well.


Between the unfriendly service, late drink and greasy overpriced meals, we definitely won’t be returning.
